Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it's entirely up to you), that we can't wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves.
Synopsis: Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes never meant to get into the family business. But when you're the sister of Bram and the niece of Sherlock, vampire hunting and mystery solving are in your blood. And when two society girls go missing, there's no one more qualified to investigate.
Now fierce Evaline and logical Mina must resolve their rivalry, navigate the advances of not just one but three mysterious gentlemen, and solve murder with only one clue: a strange Egyptian scarab. The stakes are high. If Stoker and Holmes don't unravel why the belles of London society are in such danger, they’ll become the next victims.
First of all, I admit, I read pretty much everything I can hands on to do with Sherlock Holmes. So, he has a niece, you say? Odd, never knew Mycroft had a daughter - but at least this is more believable (of only just) than that short story anthology I read that dealt with Sherlock's grandson. And, it's steampunk. And, it deals with Egypt - even if it is only tangentially. Needless to say, but I will anyway, I need this book. (And I love that cover.)
The only thing that concerns me is it that it is told from first person point of view with both the girls alternating the narration. I have never ever had good luck with that. But, I am just way to interested in this book to let that stop me.
How about you? What's on your wishlist for this Wednesday? Have you read The Clockwork Scarab? Did you like it? Or not?
Ever since the movie The Mummy, I've had a thing for those strange Egyptian bugs, so a book about them sounds interesting. I don't know if I like the idea of mixing relatives of a fictional character and an actual person, plus I don't get the mix of those two, but hey..could be good...and the Cover is so pretty!!!

Yeah, The Mummy movie certainly fueled my Egyptian fascination. I will admit, putting a Stoker and a Holmes together is kind of odd, but it sounds too good for that to put me off it. Thanks for commenting.
DeleteI have seen this one around before. Looks pretty and sounds like an interesting read, too.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get it soon!
I do just adore that cover, it's really awesome. Thanks for stopping by
DeleteHaha it sounds like we've both got a bit of a Sherlock Holmes obsession - anything and everything associated with Sherlock is something I'm bound to read, so I have to check this one out! I hope you get to read it soon!

I definitely do, and I have picked up some of the oddest sounding books because of it. This one, however, sounds way too awesome to pass up. Thanks for commenting.
DeleteI am obsessed with anything Sherlock Holmes too and anything Egyptian will eventually make it's way into my hands so this sounds like a great combination. I will have to see if I can find it.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. It's difficult for me to decide if it's more because of the Sherlock connection or the Egyptian one that I want this book for. Thanks for commenting.
DeleteThis is on my list too!! It sounds awesome and I love the cover. Great pick and I hope you get it soon. http://bookloverslife.blogspot.ie/2014/03/wishlist-wednesday-29.html
ReplyDeleteCool. Yeah, that cover is just so gorgeous and it sounds like a great story. (Here's to hoping it's as good as it sounds.) Thanks for commenting.
DeleteHave you read The Baker Street Letters? I think you would like it - it's about two brothers who lease offices on Baker Street and start receiving letters addressed to Sherlock Holmes! The brothers start investigating mysteries and it's supposed to be a really good series!
ReplyDelete[Ps, if you're interested, here's my Wishlist Wednesday post: http://kmn04books.wordpress.com/2014/03/12/wishlist-wednesday-march-12th/]
Ooh, no. I've never even heard of that before. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll go look into those books.
