Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.
This week we get to combine two things that are very near and dear to me: books and music. I actually did a post a little like this - only that one was saying what kind of books I imagine would come from the songs. But this is going to be a lot of fun - and definitely make me think about what kind of story the songs tell. And because I totally couldn't pick one song to leave off, you get eleven instead of ten. Yay for being a rebel!
(Sorry, but you're not getting youtube videos with this. I nearly killed myself for my Halloween playlist because the videos randomly disappear. Seriously, I had the first one loaded and when I loaded the second one, the first one disappeared. Instead, click on the artist and song and you'll be taken to the youtube page.)
Emilie Autumn - Shalott
Genre: Retelling
I know this actually comes from a poem (or ballad or whatever they're called) so maybe what I really want is a retelling of it?
Abney Park - The Wrath of Fate
Genre: Steampunk
No, not the depressing (and not very well written) book that the lead singer actually wrote. Something else. Something fun and full of hope.
My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade
Genre: Fantasy
I don't know. I can't explain it. There's just something about this song that makes me think it would make a killer fantasy book.
Savage Garden - To the Moon and Back
Genre: Sci-Fi/Romance
I love the imagery in this song and to read it as a book would be awesome. (Sci-fi romance ftw!)
Bea Miller - Fire N Gold
Genre: Contemporary?
Okay, so I'm doubtlessly a little biased with this song, but I'd love a book that has the feel of this song.
Needtobreathe feat. Gavin Degraw - Brother
Genre: Fantasy
So I know this is supposed to be a religious song - but ever since the first time I heard it, that's not what I hear at all. I hear friendship and I'd LOVE a book with that sort of friendship.
Rise Against - Behind Closed Doors
Genre: Fantasy (or Sci-Fi or Dystopian. Don't really care.)
I love this song. It serves as major inspiration in my own writing time and again and I'd love to read a book like it.
Aurelio Voltaire - When You're Evil
Genre: Paranormal/Urban Fantasy (or Fantasy)
For as long back as I can remember, I've adored those unapologetic villains that actually like what they do and I would love to see a book written about one of these types.
This is Halloween
Genre: Comedy/Horror
This is crazy because I don't like horror - but I think I'd love a little comedic/horror take on the life - or unlife - of various Halloween creatures.
Stabilo - Flawed Design
Genre: Retelling
I'm actually am envisioning either a Beauty & the Beast retelling - or a genderswapped version of the Snow Queen (maybe an antagonist protagonist, too).
Coldplay - Viva la Vida
Genre: Fantasy
This is the one and only Coldplay song I like, but this song? I LOVE! I want to see this song turned into a book about a former king that everyone thought was evil so he got kicked out - nearly killed - and is attempting to live a normal life while the citizens realize that the ruler they have now is WORSE.
Well, there we have ten songs that I think would make awesome books. (And I definitely came up with some that I never even thought about at first.)
