Series I Own and Need To Start (As Of May 13)

When I say I own, I own the first book in the series. I have learned the hard way one too many times. If I've never read anything by the author, I have to read the first book before I buy any more. (The Dresden Files and The Hunchback Assignments taught me that.) (Now with pictures!) Do tell, which one/s do I need to start ASAP? Conversely, which one/s could I totally take my time with?

Honestly, I cannot believe all the books that are on this list - and yet that's still not stopping me from buying more and downloading anything that sounds remotely interesting when it's a free e-book.

This is like the list of my - oh yeah I totally meant to start these already books haha!

1. You can afford to wait on the TMI series. You might like them? They're a pretty divisive series. I both hated and enjoyed parts of this series, so I'm not even sure where I lie opinion wise on this one haha.
2. I LOVE Finnikin of the Rock. ...I don't think you'll like this series much.
3. Again, I'm uncertain of how much you'll enjoy the Ursula K. Le Guin series. I wouldn't call it gritty though, so perhaps you'll be alright on this one.
4. Definitely Alanna! I DO think you'll like this one (despite it being a fantasy series I love haha!). I don't necessarily think you'll love it - I feel like Tamora Pierce's books, particularly her older ones/CoM series are the sort of books that if you read them for the first time as an adult are very enjoyable, but you can see where you would have loved them as a younger you.
5. Ok...there are REASONS that I can't say that I think you might get really frustrated with The Thief. But I can't tell you said reasons because, serious spoilers. But on the otherhand this might be an instance you are ok with it? I definitely think it is worth trying, but it's also a series you can probably take your time with because MWT takes like 6 YEARS between books.
6. The Circle of Magic series reads for a younger audience (or at least the first couple quartets do). They ARE very short - I think even shorter than her Tortall books (again at least the first couple quartets), so you wouldn't be investing a lot of time in it. The Tortall books are my bread and butter, but I really love a lot of things about her Circle of Magic books - things that I think she does better than in her early Tortall books (particularly where diversity is concerned.) Either way, Tamora Pierce in any form I vote high on the list!
7. For some reason I thought you'd read Crown Duel and didn't like it?
8. I think you'll find the Vampire Academy series really fun! (...I am getting to this post super late so I think you may have commented about reading these on my blog. But I might be getting you confused with someone else?)
9. I am uncertain whether you'll like The Seven Realms series or not. I really liked them, and it's a female led society so that's pretty cool. But, again our tastes are very different so I can see this being something maybe not up your alley.
10. I really didn't like The Looking Glass Wars...but I think it's another one of those instances where our tastes are different and it might work for you! (It's been a long time though, so I don't remember much about the series.)
11. I haven't read any of the assassin books other than Grave Mercy (WHAT KIND OF LIBRARY HAS BOOK 1 AND 3 BUT NOT TWO??? And two is the story I really want!!). I remember thinking that it kind of reads as a not smutty historical romance, just with assasssins. Which suits me, but I don't know your opinions on historical romance haha

1. Honestly, I wouldn't even be trying TMI, only I read The Infernal Devices and really wound up liking them. Of course, I am more of a historical-steampunk-paranormal kind of girl than a contemporary-paranormal girl.
2. Actually, by the time this post went live, I had already read that book. I've realized that it's impossible for me to have any entirely updated list of books. That's what happens, I guess, when you read half a dozen or more books a month. (And, you were right. Maybe I should start checking with you to see if you've read the fantasy books that I want to before I start them - because you seem to have a pretty good grasp on what I won't like. ;))
3. I've been wanting to read A Wizard of Earthsea ever since I found out that the book and the movie (which I've seen) were very different. I'm not sure how much I'll like the book (mostly because older fantasy and I are usually more miss than hit) but any fantasy book that has diversity is one that I at least have to try.
4. I'm very excited to get a chance to read more of Tamora Pierce's books. I can totally still appreciate a book that I would have liked more when I was younger. And it certainly wouldn't have been the first time I've looked at a book and went 'why couldn't I have found you ten years ago?'
5. Wow. Okay, six years? I actually thought the series was over until I just went and checked it on Goodreads. I mostly want to read it because I have a bit of a thing for thieves and this seems to be one of those series that, if you're a fan of fantasy, you have to at least try.
6. I am hoping to get to read the first in the Circle of Magic series next month. If I like it, I've thought about getting the next three (so I'd finish off the first quartet) at the same time and read them together. Because I did notice how short they are and I could probably read one on a Saturday.
7. (See my comment #2.) And you thought right. There's some of these books that should have been on my 'need to read the next book of' or my 'dropped series' lists but I've read them since those lists were posted and before this one was. It's frustrating for me, but I haven't discovered a good way to keep my books updated.
8. Nope, that was probably me. When did I post this? July 6th. Yeah, I think I read Vampire Academy at the end of June. (Once again, totally my fault for confusing you.)
9. Yeah, I'm definitely tempering my expectations for The Seven Realms. It sounds interesting, and I hear AMAZING things about the author but...There's a little something about this book that keeps me from going 'must read now'. (But the title is The Demon King and I've got to read at least one book in my life with that title.)
10. I think this is the first time I've heard you say you didn't like a book. It sounds good but I've heard a lot of mixed things about it. I guess I'll see.
11. (The kind of library like mine.) Well, I love assassins so that's what first caught my attention. But I do enjoy historical romances. In fact, I don't even remember the last time I read a romance that WASN'T historical. Good to know that's what Grave Mercy reminded you of.
1. If you liked TID, you have a pretty good shot of liking at least the first 3 books of TMI since they are VERY similar in premise (particularly romance wise). I will say that I practically frothed at the mouth in anger at the fourth and fifth book (for REASONS)...but after all that I thought the last book was outstanding and I think Cassandra Clare has really evolved as an author. After reading 6 books - 3 of which I only thought were ok, two of which I hated, and only one I really, really liked, the fact that she's definitely hooked me into reading The Shadowhunter Academy series is saying something haha! (But really, it's Magnus Bane. He's the best. I will read anything with him in it.)
2. Lolol, yeah I'm definitely the standard you should hold for whether you'll likely hate it hahahah
3. Oh that's right! Yeah it's definitely got a lot of diversity - I was pretty offended by the movie. I think part of my problem is that even as a kid I was just so used to having female characters around as a big role. I mean that's why I even read so much YA fantasy - there just doesn't seem to be as many female leads in adult fantasy (I know the DO exist, but I have a harder time finding them)
5. Oh yeah, it's definitely not finished. On the upside, I don't think there's a cliffhanger in ANY of the books, so you can take them slowly. The second and third books are like EPIC swoons for me! And yeah my vote is to give them a try (particularly if you like thieves!). Plus there's some cool God worldbuilding, and I have a special place in my heart for fantasies that involve worldbuilding + gods
6. I don't know if it's the same with the CoM books, but I know her Alanna books were actually written as a single book and her publisher was the one who wanted them split into 4. They definitely work best if you read them as one book - I read the first CoM book without the rest lined up and definitely wasn't left feeling satisfied, it feels more like an intro. Which, well, it kind of is.
10. I think I got bored with the way things were handled? It's been a while. I read the first two, and maybe three? But I feel like I didn't finish the series, so I definitely didn't read as many as are in the series. Interesting premise, the execution just wasn't really my scene.
11. In which case it seems like it's right up your alley! And yeah, I don't read any romances that aren't historical - there would have to be a lot of convincing involved to get me to read a contemporary one haha
