6 Little Red Riding Hood Retellings (#TLCReadAlong)

taking place here

This is not a story that's been retold as often as Cinderella, though it is one of my favorite fairy tales. But, you see, I like one of the old versions where Red isn't the little girl saved by the woodsman, but the young lady that slays the wolf alone. There are several retellings out there though - and I fail again because I've only read one of these.

Probably the best known retelling on this list.

Sisters Red is a story about two sister - Scarlet and Rosie - that are werewolf hunters. Armed with a razor-sharp hatchet and blood-red cloak, Scarlett is an expert at luring and slaying the wolves. She's determined to protect other young girls from a grisly death, and her raging heart will not rest until every single wolf is dead.
Rosie March once felt her bond with her sister was unbreakable. Owing Scarlett her life, Rosie hunts ferociously alongside her. But even as more girls' bodies pile up in the city and the Fenris seem to be gaining power, Rosie dreams of a life beyond the wolves.

Scarlette is a historical retelling that sounds awesome! (Except for the love triangle potential, but still.)

Whispered rumors of unnatural creatures blended with age-old superstition to cause mass hysteria. A werewolf was blamed for the carnage. Alarmed, King Louis XV sent his best huntsmen to rid the province of the beastly scourge, but this legendary massacre had only just begun.

Scarlette, a 19-year-old seamstress who is laboring to make ends meet, lives under this dark threat. Although fearful of the nightmarish monster lurking in the surrounding forest, she remains skeptical of the supernatural gossip.

Until her grandmother is attacked.

Yay! Finally a fairytale retelling I've read. For my Crimson Bound review, click here.

When Rachelle was fifteen she was good—apprenticed to her aunt and in training to protect her village from dark magic. But she was also reckless— straying from the forest path in search of a way to free her world from the threat of eternal darkness. After an illicit meeting goes dreadfully wrong, Rachelle is forced to make a terrible choice that binds her to the very evil she had hoped to defeat.

Red Riding Hood is a retelling that sounds really cool - and that I've only just heard of.

After her sister's violent death, Valerie's world begins to spiral out of control. For generations, the Wolf has been kept at bay with a monthly sacrifice. But now no one is safe. When an expert Wolf hunter arrives, the villagers learn that the creature lives among them--it could be anyone in town.

Princess of the Silver Woods is a retelling (third in a series) that mashes up the tale of Little Red and Robin Hood.

In order to reach Westfalin, Petunia must pass through a forest where strange two-legged wolves are rumored to exist. Wolves intent on redistributing the wealth of the noble citizens who have entered their territory. But the bandit-wolves prove more rakishly handsome than truly dangerous, and it's not until Petunia reaches her destination that she realizes the kindly grandmother she has been summoned to visit is really an enemy bent on restoring an age-old curse.

Now, we will finish this list up with Red Hood's Revenge - a sequel for a series that I totally need to start because it sound crazy good.

Roudette's story was a simple one. A red cape. A wolf. A hunter. Her mother told her she would be safe, so long as she kept to the path. But sometimes the path leads to dark places. Roudette is the hunter now, an assassin known throughout the world as the Lady of the Red Hood. Her mission will take her to the country of Arathea and an ancient fairy threat. At the heart of the conflict between humans and fairies stands the woman Roudette has been hired to kill, the only human ever to have fought the Lady of the Red Hood and survived-the princess known as Sleeping Beauty.

Some of these books sound absolutely amazing to me. If you've read any of them, I'd love to know what you think. Any other Little Red retellings you'd suggest?
